To help you think through your research topics, it is important to situate your interests within particular scholarly communities within geography. What kind of a geographer are you?
To guide you through some of these issues, below are some useful links.
Association of American Geographers Specialty Groups. There are multiple communities or 'specialty' groups within the AAG. Check them out in this link. Also, make sure to visit AAG Conference's preliminary program page to help you navigate through different topics geographers all over are involved in. It should help you find specific conference paper sessions to attend to.
University of Washington Geography Department. Visit the research themes page of the department website and see the various topics UW geographers are interested in. Read the detailed description of the department's 10 research themes: Access, Area Studies, The City, Development, Mobility, Nature-Society, Public Participation, Racialization & Space, Social Justice, and Sustainability. Take note of the general research questions UW faculty members ask.
